Steel scrap is one of the most commonly recycled materials in the world due to its unique properties that allow it to be reintroduced into the production cycle without losing its mechanical integrity. This recycling process reduces the need to mine new raw materials and significantly reduces the environmental impact of the steel industry. Steel can come from a variety of materials including discarded vehicles, household appliances, building materials, cans, industrial scrap and manufacturing waste.

Steel can be easily separated from other materials such as plastics, rubber or glass using mechanical or magnetic processes. Once separated, the metal is returned to its original form by melting in an electric arc furnace, which removes impurities and non-metallic materials. This melting process returns the steel to its primary state.
